Embroidered landscapes
When she arrived in Morocco, six years from now, Camille walked through the Atlas Mountains, from Ait Bougmez to Drâa Valley, discovering the rich moroccan craftsmanship and its beautiful landscapes.
This series is Camille’s story : her encounter with a territory, a landscape and a culture far from her own. It’s also Kaoutar’s story : her childhood memories, from the lands and landscapes of her native village.
First impressions, first memories, first contacts with the light and colours of the Maghreb. The moroccan landscapes are drawn by the fingers of these two embroiderers and drawn with the
poetry of a moment, a valley, a light, a star night in the desert. With patience, rigor and precision, they embroider lightening points which bright in the night and create visual and tactile contrasts between silk and wool, revealing the curves of the dunes. Thanks to natural dyeing, elaborated in the studio in Marrakech, they reveal subtile shades of one color.
Invisible on the reverse side, these Rozlaby embroideries are a poetic invitation to follow the steps of these two artists in the Atlas Valleys.
Camille and Kaoutar describe the beauty and the history of these landscapes while warning on climat changes. These landscapes remind last years of drought that Morocco experienced. Between abstraction and figuration, we sense in the background a valley where water is drying up.
